Backlash Charters was founded in 2007 by Captain Grant Coppin, a lifelong angler inspired by his father, a dedicated tournament fisherman. From the beginning, Grant built his charter business around one guiding principle: "Remember the fun of it." That spirit still fuels every trip.



Captain Grant combines deep-rooted fishing knowledge with a laid-back, family-friendly approach. Whether you’re chasing your first redfish or targeting a monster black drum, he makes sure the experience is just as rewarding as the catch. Safety, flexibility, and good vibes come standard.

From Saltwater Kid to Corpus Christi Pro

Captain Grant started fishing saltwater at just 12 years old. His passion only grew after moving to Corpus Christi at 18 to attend Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi, where he fished nearly every day between classes. That dedication turned into a career as he began guiding professionally shortly after graduation.



He’s competed alongside his father in the FLW Redfish Series and other coastal tournaments, sharpening his skills in high-pressure environments. Today, with nearly two decades of experience under his belt, he leads guests through the rich waters of Laguna Madre, Baffin Bay, and Corpus Christi Bay with ease.

Backlash Charters operates aboard a 2013 Blazer Bay 24GTS, a top-tier 24-foot bay boat built for serious fishing and serious comfort.
